60 Watts of Wisdom through Trials and Prayer

1

Lightbulb with CrossHave you ever gotten a revelation about something in such a way that a proverbial light just ‘pops on’ suddenly, and there’s your answer? And in your heart of hearts you know exactly where or Whom the answer came from. God gives insight and wisdom.

I know when the light comes on for me I feel empowered and excited to share what I’ve learned. Maybe that’s why I chose to be a teacher in my natural life.

I’m usually limited to the curriculum in classrooms, but every now and again a moment presents itself where I’m given the opportunity to share 60-watts-of-wisdom with a student.

Don’t get me wrong; I see myself as a student of life, and as someone who NEEDS Jesus every waking moment. You know when people say, “Oh, that person needs Jesus,” I would think to myself, so do I. But in addition to being students, we are also teachers, gregarious teachers.

So what qualifies a person to give advice? I think we have all asked ourselves that question at one point or another. And in all honesty if it weren’t for the Word, prayer and God-given experiences, trials, and lessons, none of us would be qualified; we would have no wisdom to share. But we do and we must share!

During my early adult life I would often hear older Christian folk say,” Let me pray about it and I’ll get back to you.” I would think to myself, wow, does God just come down and talk to these people? What does He say? And what if He says something that they don’t want to hear? (LOL) But their faith brought them to their knees in front of our heavenly Father whether it was for a request, inquiry or help.

One time I got bold enough to ask,” How do you know it’s God that gave you that answer? “The response was,” Well if the answer lines up with biblical practice I trust the answer is from God. “At the time I wondered if I would ever have that much faith.

Shoot, at that time in my life I barely received the wisdom of those within physical view, let alone spiritual. Satan seems to run more havoc in the lives of the youth, causing unnecessary distractions, and it’s a challenge to hear God in the midst of the chaos.

It wasn’t until later that I learned to pray myself through my trials. He’s always listening, and we should be, too. Pray and listen. Pray and listen. I don’t always share what I receive in prayer because the person I’m sharing with may not be ready or receptive to what I’m saying. But I do always share the lessons I’ve learned at the end of a storm.

The Reasons for Revelations:

In addition to just reminding us of His presence through answer in prayer, I believe God gives the gift of revelations for many reasons; the first being to bring us closer to Him.

I thank God that He has no respective person (Acts 10:34-43).  He loves us all. He listens and reveals to us all. But we don’t all learn the same. I, like my own children, usually had to learn the hard way. God knew how to get the message to me, but many times I wanted to do what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. A bit of a hard head is what I’d call it. Thankfully, if I reject the lesson the first time around, that lesson would return full circle.

God-given wisdom helps us to make better decisions. Isn’t that what we want for our own children? That’s what our Father wants for us. He wants us to mature. He wants us to grow to trust him. He wants us to strengthen our compassion for each other.

Another reason God gives us the gift of revelations is to equip us with the tools for building the Kingdom. Imagine a world where all God’s children are utilizing the gift of spiritual wisdom (and other spiritual gifts) to bring people closer to Him.

His gifts are not to be taken lightly, use them!

So when you are experiencing trials and tribulation, stay mindful that there is a lesson to be learned. Pray and listen. Pray and listen. Also, keep in mind that this is all a part of your Christian walk.

And…

Most importantly, remember that God is right there going through it with you, receive His love.
