About Autumn T Newell

Autumn T NewellIt’s official; my pen name is Autumn Newell!

And who am I, you ask?

I am an unpublished writer, or maybe I should say barely published. I had a children’s story, My First Pair of Glasses, published in Skipping Stone magazine back in the early nineties.

I stepped away from writing, not consciously, but to deal with life’s circumstances as they presented themselves. Thank God for lessons learned! Ultimately those same deterrents, trials and experiences have given me the fuel, content and drive to write.

There’s joy and agony in writing.

I’m finishing up the rewrite of a creative nonfiction work titled A Quiet Storm In Autumn.

Someone once said, we should all write our life story. What they failed to mention was, it takes willingness to face demons then pour out your blood and guts in 12 point, Times New Roman font. Then get on your knees and pray a publisher doesn’t throw your work into a slush pile. Whew!

I have also written a Novella, titled Beneath Dreary.  This is a fictional piece about one woman’s encounter with domestic abuse. It’s a 40,000-word work of Inspirational women’s fiction, African American women’s fiction or mainstream fiction. Take your pick.

Talent vs. determination.

I’ve discovered that traditionally writers fit into two categories: one, the gifted writer (I don’t fit here); or two, the skilled writer (oops, don’t fit here either). Today’s fast pace, high strung, detached society has given birth to a new kind of writer, the determined, somewhat tech savvy keyboarder with a treasure chest full of adventures, escapades or stories. That’s me!

As I enter the Autumn years of my life I have become the non-traditional writer.  And through my writing, I want to share my experiences in hopes to create a flicker that contributes to the light in someone else’s path.

I also enjoy writing flash fiction and poetry, usually Haikus.

I am truly a student of life, but…

Currently I’m a technology teacher in a public school, here in Minnesota.  I did my undergrad work at The College of Saint Catherine; I did my grad work at the University of Saint Thomas.

My aspirations…

To be published!!! In addition to this, I want to share any and every piece of information that I discover in the process. To share revelations, enlightenment and wisdom (I say this with a humble heart).  To become a skilled writer, and to be a voice for the Light and Love that dwell within me.
